Men's Soccer Coach, AG Gomez Named to Gateway Sports Hall of Fame

A 1976 Gateway Senior High School graduate, and Head Soccer Coach Ascencion Gomez was inducted as a part of the 2019 class into the Gateway Sports Hall of Fame.

Coach Gomez was a member of the 1976 Boys Varsity Track and Field team which won the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) as well as four additional first place finishes at invitationals throughout the season.  While competing in the WPIAL, the track team set multiple school records including in the 2 mile relay with a 7:48.4, and the mile relay with a 3:23.3.  For his part, Gomez won the open 880, and ran the anchor leg for the record setting 2-mile relay and mile relay teams.  Gomez finished the 1976 season as the team's MVP for Track.

Currently Coach Gomez is in the midst of his fourth season as the Head Coach of the MACU Mustangs Soccer team.  While at MACU Gomez has led the Mustangs to the team's first win as a collegiate program as he has worked to build the program from a club sport to a competitive collegiate team.  In addition to his duties on the soccer field, Gomez currently serves at MACU as the Associate Professor of Management.
