Mustangs Win NIT Championship

Mustangs Win NIT Championship

For years the the Mustangs of Mid-Atlantic Christian University have arrived at the Small Bible College National Invitational Tournament, only to return home disappointed by the results.  However disappointment become resolve as the Mustangs worked harder and sought to achieve new levels of excellence.  On March 3 in Jacksonville, Florida, disappointment became celebration as the 2018 Men's Basketball Team raised the Tournament Championship banner after a resounding defeat of Trinity Baptist College in the Championship Game.

Led by third year Head Coach Allan Harris the Mustangs took this year's NIT field by storm.  A first round wire to wire win over Dayspring Bible College of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois would lead the Mustangs to face off against the #1 seeded Trinity College of Florida in a semi-final match-up.  The Mustangs and Tigers would battle back and forth all night before the Mustangs finally seized control in overtime, to win it 73-70 and advance to the championship round against the host, Trinity Baptist College.

A win in the championship game was all but assured as the Mustangs gained control early to take a 16 point lead into the halftime break and would go on to win by a final of 75-54.  Playing in his final game as a Mustang, senior Dixon Ogwo led the team with 14 points, 16 rebounds and 3 blocked shots while freshman Grayson Tejeda added 18 points of his own to lead the team in scoring on 7-10 shooting from the field.  Junior Alex Stanley had 10 points and 7 rebounds while Tyler Hendrix chipped in 10 points, 3 assists and 3 steals in the win.
