Freshmen Lead the Way for Mustangs

Playing in the final game of 2018 for MACU athletics, the Mid-Atlantic Christian University Women's Basketball team was able to come away with a quality win, 69-59 over Penn State Mont Alto.

The Lady Mustangs went into halftime with a 1 point lead but used a strong defense in the second half holding the Nittany Lions to just 26 points on 28 percent shooting from the floor to hold off the attempted comeback.  For the game the Mustangs held a decisive advantage in second chance opportunities grabbing 19 offensive rebounds while they took care of the basketball with only 10 turnovers compared to 18 by PSU Mont Alto.

Freshmen Cinnamon Stanfield led four Lady Mustangs in double figures with 15 points, 4 assists and 4 steals.  Fellow freshmen Kendra Campbell and Baleigh Lambert chipped in with 13 a piece while Imani Simmons came off the bench to add 12.

"This was a great win for us to closeout the semester.  Everyone contributed to the outcome by playing good defense, and taking care of the ball and we were able to take another step forward as we learned how to closeout a tight game.  Very proud of our ladies tonight." - Head Coach Charles Troxell

In the Stands:  The MACU crowd was led by the cheerleaders of Berea Baptist Church in Elizabeth City.  The team is comprised of young ladies from the ages of 4-10.  A great big thank you to the Berea Cheerleaders for cheering the Lady Mustangs on to a victory!
