Mid-Atlantic Christian started red hot, jumping to a 28-point halftime lead, then repelled a Trinity Baptist (FL) rally to claim a 78-62 season opening win Thursday night at Chesson Gym. 

Junior college transfer Marquice Sims had an impressive debut for the Mustangs on 11-for-17 shooting from the field for 24 points to lead all scorers.  Sims also claimed double digit rebounds. Redshirt junior Wayne Thurber, who returned to the squad after sitting out last season with a liver ailment, added 12 points, all in the first half.  Junior point guard David Barron had 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc.

Shaq Guyton and J'moi Liburd led the Eagles (1-1) with 14 points each.  

It was the opening night of the Mustang Showcase, the annual season tip-off for MACU.  In the night's other game, Davis College (NY) rebounded from a four-point halftime deficit to defeat Trinity College (FL) 78-66.

Showcase play continues in the Friday night with Trinity Baptist meeting Davis at 6pm, then MACU taking on Trinity at 8pm.  That game will be broadcast here on the Mustangs Sports Network.
