The first challenge was just getting to Chicago in the middle of winter, and it didn't get any easier after that. But fifth seed Mid-Atlantic Christian didn't let a change in travel plans effect its play as the Mustangs upset fourth seed Trinity Baptist 74-66 in the opening round of the Bible College National Invitational Tournament Thursday night in Lake Zurich, IL.

The Herd took its first lead of the game at 26-25 with approximately six minutes to play in the first half. Hot shooting from beyond the arc by Will Artis and 25-of-37 shooting from the free throw line for the game kept MACU in it as TBC came back to claim a 40-37 halftime lead.

Solid ball handling resulted in only 11 turnovers for the game and propelled MACU back into the lead after intermission. The Mustangs outscored the Eagles by 11 in the second frame in claiming their fourth win of the year and second over Trinity. MACU defeated TBC in the season opener at Chesson Gym 78-62. The Eagles claimed the rematch in Jacksonville, FL 65-58 on January 12.

Marquice Sims led the Mustangs with 19, Wayne Thurber and Artis added 11 each. TBC's Jamari Bradford led all scorers with 20.

With a February ice storm making highway travel all but impossible between Elizabeth City and the Midwest, the Mustangs made last-minute plans to fly to Chicago on Wednesday.

MACU advances to the semi-finals to meet top-seeded Davis on Friday. The Falcons downed the Herd 96-65 on November 8.
