Box Score Markel Ming scored 22 points, 12 of them from long range, to lead Mid-Atlantic (5-13) to an 87-80 upset of USCAA Division I #12 Apprentice School Tuesday night in Elizabeth City.
The game was marked by historic firsts. It was the first ever win by the Mustangs over the Builders, the first back-to-back Mustang wins over ranked opponents, and the first back-to-back wins since February 2016.
At five victories, the Herd has the most wins since going 11-15 in 2013-14.
MACU's defense frustrated AS and the Mustangs found themselves at the free throw line much of the night and made good on it, hitting 32 of 41 attempts for 78%. The Builders racked up 30 personal fouls, only one less than the number of AS attempted field goals.
Leander Williams added 18 points for MACU, Dixon Ogwo finished with 15, and Jeremy Vincent chipped in 13. Alex Stanley was six-for-six from the stripe and finished with eight points.
Apprentice's Michael Gainey led all scorers with 31 points.
The schedule gets even harder as MACU visits Central Penn, ranked #2 in the USCAA Division II, this Friday February 3.
