State College, PA -- The MACU golf team finished off the season this past weekend at the USCAA Nationals hosted by the Penn State Blue Course.  The weather was chillier and windier than recent years, but the team had a number of program highlights throughout the day.  The team posted the lowest team score at Nationals in program history (671) with the lowest two rounds in program history (339-332).
Chandler Wilkes (jr) led the team shooting 80-76.  He posted the fourth lowest two-day score and the third lowest round at Nationals in program history.  Joshua Peacock (fr) shot 83-78.  That includes the second lowest score and round by a MACU freshman.  Jack Valachovic (jr) shot 86-91 and Titus Bleckley (so) shot 90-87 to round off the team scoring.  Ethan Sheppard (jr) in his first season of competition golf was able to qualify for Nationals and shot 96-102.
Bleckley received Academic All-National honors for his work in the classroom as a student-athlete.
Wilkes remarked on the trip, "I was happy with how I played and really happy with how the team did.  The course was in good shape and the rough was as thick as broccoli.  The program is moving up.  I am looking forward to working over the off-season and aiming for next year's Nationals."
Coach Andy Meneely commented, "I am really proud of these guys.  It is a tough, compressed season and we traveled a bit more than we have in previous years.  We shot the lowest MACU team score and lowest MACU team round ever at Nationals.  They wanted better results out of themselves, which is a great mentality, but I think the weather was a bit more of a factor than they care to admit and it was a tougher field of competition.  We aren't losing anybody for next year, so we are just building on great improvements for 2024."
This concludes the fall for the MACU golf program.  The program will participate in at least two exhibition tournaments in the spring.
