Box Score 2 The MACU Mustangs beat the Thomas Nelson Gators by a score of 9-2, and 10-6 in their double header series Sunday afternoon.
The Mustangs were dominant in all aspects of the game, with 19 total runs and 18 strikeouts between the two games. The Mustangs came out strong and were only behind once all day, trailing 1-0 in the second game, before taking control of the game.
Sophomore
Dakota Jacobsen got the start on the mound for the Mustangs in Game 1, pitching 6 innings, allowing only 2 walks and 1 run, while picking up 6 strikeouts. Sophomore 3rd Basemen
Will Warren went a perfect 4-4 at the plate and had two RBI's. Sophomore Center Fielder
Christian Moody had a hit and an RBI to go along with his pair of walks and stolen bases. Freshman DH
Liam Miller went 1-1 at the plate with a double and brought in 2 RBIs, and also had 3 walks.
Game 2 saw Junior
Jordan Young get the start, pitching 3 and a third innings, before Freshman Austin Scott made his collegiate pitching debut. Scott threw an impressive 2 and 2/3 innings of relief collecting 8 strikeouts and only giving up 1 run, 2 hits and a walk. Junior First Basemen
Jalyn Lee made program history when he hit the first Grand Slam to put the Mustangs up 6-2 in the bottom of the third. Lee led the way with 7 RBI's for the Mustangs, going 2-4 at the plate. Freshman Center Fielder
Andrew Henri went 1-2 at the plate with a hit, a walk and scored three times. Sophomore Outfielder
Christian Moody had another solid performance, going 1-3 at the plate, picking up a hit, a walk and also scored three times.
When asked about his teams performance, Coach
Michael Louis said " We played a great team game today, and we were able to get a lot of different guys in to get some experience. It's great to be able to be over .500 here at MACU and I'm proud of my guys." Player of the Game
Jalyn Lee had this to say about the teams performance "I'm proud of all the guys. I don't play for myself, I play to win games for the team. It's mainly to win ball games, score runs and do what I can for the team."
The Mustangs move to 3-2 on the season, and are scheduled to play Thomas Nelson again on Wednesday, February 24th.
