Playing on the second of a back to back, the Lady Mustangs pushed the Crusaders to the limits in regulation before securing the win in overtime by a final of 65-62.
After trailing for much of the contest MACU would look to the scoreboard midway thru the third quarter and find themselves down by their largest margin in the game at 16 points. The Lady Mustangs used a 16-7 push to finish the third trailing by just 7 points. The fourth quarter went back and forth with both teams trading baskets early and the Crusaders clinging to a 6 point lead with just over 3 minutes remaining. A strong defensive effort and clutch shooting would lead to a pair of free throws by
Tyeisha Williams to tie the game at 54 with just 25 seconds remaining. Another defensive stop by each team would send the game to overtime where once again the two teams would trade the lead several times before MACU grabbed a 3 point lead and used superb defense on the final possession to put away the game and secure the win.
The Lady Mustangs were led by Williams, who finished the game with 29 points and 10 rebounds to secure her first double double of the year. Fellow senior
Carrington Townes added 15 points and 3 rebounds. Christendom's Catherine Thomas led all scorers with 33 points.
"Both of these teams really came out here and gave everything they had on the court. I wouldn't expect anything less out of another game between them, and it really turned into an instant classic." "Personally, I couldn't be more proud of my team. Together they persevered throughout the game, every player contributed, and they came through with a tremendous team win. This is what I've come to expect from this team, and I've been waiting to see Carrington hit those kind of big shots in a game, she really came thru for us." - Coach
