Box Score PETERSBURG, VA -- Playing their second game in as many days, the MACU women's basketball season came to a close on Tuesday morning with a loss to Bryant and Stratton-Albany.
The women's basketball team had, arguably, their best season on record as they not only tied the high mark for wins in a single season but also qualified for their first USCAA Nationals appearance.
Bryant and Stratton-Buffalo 84, MACU 52
The first trip to the USCAA Nationals for MACU women's basketball started off on a sour note on Monday afternoon as the number two seeded Bryant and Stratton-Buffalo defeated the number seven seed MACU 84-52 at Richard Bland College.
MACU held pace with Bryant and Stratton-Buffalo in the first quarter but the Buffalo edition of the Bobcats flexed their defensive muscles in the second stanza by outscoring the Mustangs 26-9. That quarter was the difference maker in the game as while the Bobcats were able to outscore the Mustangs in the other quarters it was not to the margin as it was in the second.
Tyeisha Williams notched 26 points for the Mustangs on 6-of-18 shooting and 5-of-15 from behind the arc. Judea Edmonds was the only other Mustang to score in double figures as she registered 14 on the afternoon.
Bryant and Stratton-Albany 55, MACU 47
In the second game of the USCAA Nationals for MACU women's basketball, the Mustangs again saw a slow start and battled back in the second half but it wasn't enough as the Albany branch of Bryant and Stratton took the 55-47 decision.
The Albany Bobcats outscored the Mustangs 16-4 in first quarter of the breakfast time matchup but the Mustangs battled to keep the first half deficit managable. MACU would go on to outpace the Bobcats in the second half but it wasn't enough to rebound from the early deficit.
Tyeisha Williams scored 13 and Judea Edmonds poured in 11 points. Junior Airyannah Moitt registered a double-double for the Mustangs with 13 points and 11 rebounds on the morning.
The Mustangs season comes to a close with a final record of 11-13.
