MACU Baseball Sets Challenging 2023 Schedule
ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – In looking to build off of the successes of the 2022 baseball campaign that ended with the Mustangs second consecutive trip to the USCAA Nationals, MACU has released a challenging 52-game 2023 schedule."We are always looking to challenge ourselves throughout the season and I believe that this schedule does just that. We are returning almost all of our production from the successful 2022 season and so the timing was right to push for the most challenging schedule that we have had since our program started," MACU head baseball coach Michael Louis said.
The schedule features 52 games, 28 of which will be played within the friendly confines of Holmes Field at Knobbs Creek Park in Elizabeth City. The Mustangs will face off against NCCAA competition 23 times, NAIA foes 13 times, four times against NCAA Division II competition, four times against NCAA Division III competition and finally eight times against USCAA foes.
The 2023 campaign will start on February 3
rd, in Marion, North Carolina at the Big League Camp Season Kickoff as MACU will face Toccoa Falls College and Kentucky Christian in the two day event. Following the opening weekend events, MACU will travel to face NAIA foe Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina on Wednesday, February 8
th.The second weekend of play will also be the home opener for MACU as they will welcome Bob Jones University to Elizabeth City for a three-game set February 10-11. MACU will stay at home to face NCAA Division III opponent Southern Virginia University in a Valentine's Day doubleheader.A five-game road swing then commences as the Mustangs travel to Carolina University, February 17-18 and to Southern Virginia for another doubleheader on February 21
st.Once the buses pull back into MACU after the contests on February 21
st, they won't be moving anytime soon as MACU will be hosting the next 13 games on their schedule at Holmes Field. The 13-game homestand begins on February 24 and 25
th as the Mustangs will host Ohio Christian University in a weekend set. Bryant and Stratton will challenge the Mustangs on March 2 and 3, followed by NCAA Division II opponent Wheeling University in a doubleheader on March 5. The following midweek contests will welcome in Grace Christian University on March 7 and 8 and the homestand will end with a doubleheader against regional rival Christendom College on March 11.
The annual Spring Break trip will be exciting for the Mustangs as they will travel to Miami, Florida to face off against Atlantis University on March 14, Florida National University on March 15, and the University of Fort Lauderdale on March 17 and 18.Following the spring break journey, the Mustangs will travel to Newport News to face off against conference opponent Apprentice School on March 21 before coming back to Elizabeth City for a doubleheader against Morris College on March 24. The Mustangs will continue conference play by welcoming Virginia State University in a single contest on March 27.The Mustangs will head back on the road to face off against St. Andrews University on March 29, regional rival Chowan University on April 4, and the Apprentice School on April 11.
MACU will face off against Carolina University for three games in Elizabeth City on April 14-15 before heading to Virginia State on April 17. Atlantis University will travel to Harbor of Hospitality on April 20 and 21 before the Mustangs will entertain the Apprentice School for the home finale on April 25.The Mustangs will end the 2023 regular season campaign by heading to Front Royal, Virginia to face Christendom College for a doubleheader on April 26 and will travel to Greenville, South Carolina for a weekend series at Bob Jones University on April 28 and 29.
The season will culminate with the NSAC Conference Tournament on May 5 and 6. The USCAA baseball tournament is scheduled for mid-May in DuBois, Pennsylvania.
