ELIZABETH CITY, NC -- MACU baseball finally returned to the diamond after a slew of rainouts/snow outs that has cancelled a good amount of their games early this season. With a cancellation from Southern Virginia, VPCC called and was willing to play the double header in their place. MACU started off game 1 in the best possible way,
Travis Snell hit the first pitch he saw to straight away center field for his first home run of the season and put the Mustang's on the board 1-0. After a battle of the offense back and forth all game, MACU ultimately got their first win of the season winning 7-6.
Cutter Williams came in relief in the top of the third inning and closed the door for MACU, allowing only 4 hits, 1 earned run and tallying 5 strikeouts in 4 innings of work.
Game 2 started out with the Mustang bats still hot as the Mustangs crossed a total of 11 runs in the bottom of the second inning. The inning was broke open by
Nick Boyle smashing a long fly ball to right field for a grand slam putting the Mustangs ahead 6-1 and the Mustangs never looked back.
Nick Boyle swung a hot bat in game 2, going 3-3 at the plate, 2 doubles and a grand slam, racking up 7 RBI's for the game.
Landen Miller also had a hot bat getting his first start off the season he went 3-3 at the plate with 2 RBI's.
Jeremiah Cabrera had another solid outing on the mound throwing 3 innings, allowing only 2 hits and zero earned runs. MACU hopes to continue their winning streak this Friday as the Virginia State University Trojans come to town for an always exciting NSAC matchup.
