ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – Coming off a USCAA National Tournament bid in their first full season of competition, the Mid-Atlantic Christian University Mustangs have released their schedule for the 2022 campaign.
“With a great effort in 2021, we built this schedule to challenge our team and prepare us for a return to DuBois (for the USCAA National Tournament) in May,” MACU head baseball coach Michael Louis said.
The schedule is highlighted by 22 home games, a spring break swing through Kentucky and West Virginia and contests against NCAA Division II regional rivals Chowan and Virginia State.
The Mustangs will start the 2022 campaign facing off against Montreat College in a four-game set on February 4-5. These two teams faced off in 2021 with the Cavaliers winning 13-3 and 11-3.
Following the game against Montreat, MACU returns to the friendly confines of Knobbs Creek Park to take on Thomas Nelson in the first of three games during the 2022 campaign.
MACU will then travel to take on Carolina University in a three-game set Friday, February 11 and Saturday, February 12. Next up will be a home date against NCAA Division II member Chowan on February 15.
After a week off, the Mustangs will travel up to Buena Vista, Virginia to take on NCAA Division III member Southern Virginia in a weekday doubleheader on February 22.
The road swing will continue at the Tobs Classic in Wilson, N.C. on February 25 and 26 as MACU will take on Division II opponents Frostburg State and Chowan.
To start the month of March the Mustangs will take on NAIA member St. Andrews on March 1 and another date with Southern Virginia, a doubleheader, on March 5. Both of which will take place in Elizabeth City.
Following the short homestand, the Mustangs will take their Spring Break trip to take on NAIA members Kentucky Christian in a four-game midweek set on March 8-9, in Grayson, Kentucky. MACU will then travel 200 miles to take on another NAIA member in Bluefield College on March 11-12.
The Mustangs will then step into USCAA play for the first time as they will entertain Bucks County Community College on Wednesday, March 16 and Thursday, March 17 in Elizabeth City.
On Wednesday, March 23, the Mustangs will travel down to Laurinburg, N.C. to take on NAIA member St. Andrews in a midweek tilt.
MACU will then come back to Knobbs Creek to take on regional rival and USCAA member Christendom College in a doubleheader on March 26. The Mustangs will continue their USCAA swing as they will make their first trip to Newport News to take on EMAC rival Apprentice in their first of three meetings.
March ends and April begins with a home date with Bluefield College on March 30 and a weekend home set with Carolina University on April 1-2.
Thomas Nelson Community College is the next opponent on the schedule as the Mustangs will travel to Newport News for another date with the Gators on April 5. The road swing continues with a weekend date against NCAA Division II member Virginia State in Petersburg, Virginia on April 9-10.
MACU will then return home to face off against NCCAA member Bob Jones University on April 15-16, in their last home weekend set.
The Mustangs will travel to Thomas Nelson again on April 18, before coming back home to face Apprentice School on April 19 for the last home game of the season.
MACU will then travel to Christendom on April 23-24, Apprentice School on April 26, and Bob Jones University to finish out the season on April 29-30.
All of this is to set the Mustangs up for a potential bid to the USCAA Baseball Nationals in DuBois, Pennsylvania on May 15-19, 2022.
“I feel as though this schedule will challenge us as well as get us the most prepared for another USCAA Nationals bid. Everything we do is to make it to the end goal of DuBois and visits there every year. I am excited about this team and excited about this schedule,” MACU coach Michael Louis said.
